Better Late Than Never

I can finally cross one off of my 2007 Goals list and I am soo happy! I wanted to get this finished by the end of the weekend and I did get really close, but Sunday night with only 6 rows to go, I just had to stop. Finishing up was easy and stress free yesterday…

I am glad to present to you the recently most labored over, Stripey Throw!!! I was trying to remember when I actually started this thing, but couldn’t, so I am going to guess early to mid-December. Even though I didn’t finish it quickly, it was very quick! I used a Susan Bates J10/6.00 mm hook and Bernat Satin in the colors Sage (5 1/2 skeins), Camel (2 1/2 skeins), Spring (1 1/2 skeins), and Silk (less than 1 skein), and the pattern is from Erika Knight’s book Simple Crochet. It measures approximately 29” x 58” which I think is an ok size for a throw. The book gave its measurements at approximately 33″ x 55″ which I guess is close enough since I was using an entirely different type yarn than specified.

I really hope that my grandmother will like it! I quizzed her down one day to see what colors she would like if she got a blanket made for her, and I think that these will please her. We will soon find out as I am giving it to her on Friday. 🙂 Seeing as how it is her last year’s Christmas present, I hope that she will find it worth the wait.

I just have to go to Tuesday Morning (b/c they have the cutest ones for cheap) to get a gift bag, and it will be ready to go!

Not Much

That is exactly what has been going on around my crafty palace, not much.

I have knit nor crochet nary a stitch since Sunday. Monday I had to take my car to the shop so I was at the mercy, and on the schedule, of my kind chauffeur and then sometime during the evening/night I got sick. Tuesday I was so miserable. Even though I was at home I was so sore and weak that I could not even think about picking up my grandmother’s throw and working on it. Instead I just moved from the bed to the couch trying to get comfortable. I didn’t turn on the TV, and while I did try to read a book, mostly I just slept or stared at the wall. Pitiful I know. It is NO FUN taking a sick day and actually being so sick you can’t really do anything! Fortunately I am better now, and my mystery illness/stomach bug/flu-like whatever is gone.

I only have one repeat left to go on the stripey throw and I will be finished. I can’t wait, because I am seriously ready to start doing something else and get all of my Christmas projects done for last year! I was really not on top of things, but I am going to try and do better this year.

I set myself the goal of finishing the stripey throw by the end of this weekend. I don’t anticipate that happening now, and I am a little disappointed about that. I am going home next weekend and wanted/needed to have that done as well as having Maria‘s birthday present finished so that I could give throw to my grandmother AND have her help me with the completion of M’s b-day present before her BIG DAY of turning 29!!!!!! I mean, that will only happen 3 or 4 more times before it won’t be believable anymore right?? 😀  Gotta make this one special.  😉

Did you know…

Karen has tagged me, so I am to tell 3 things about myself that you might not know…since I am pretty boring and virtually an open book (ha) I will see what I can do…

1. I have a blue ‘dot’ under my right knee from the first grade when I accidentally stabbed myself with a pencil. I was rocking back and forth on the back legs of my chair, like the teacher always said not to do, and when I was coming back down on the floor I lost control, and stabbed the pencil into my leg, under my knee. The pencil lead broke off and the blue dot was born.

Also, I have an indention in my skull from when I was 2 years old and fell down the stairs in our apartment. It looks like a dimple in the middle of my forehead and it is visible when I furrow my brow.

2. Whenever I think of or say the words ‘intelligent’ and ‘interesting’ I also think them in French. Maybe I am bilingual in 2 words, or maybe those are the only 2 words I actually learned despite many sememsters of French?!?

3. I generally have a celebrity crush to whom I am very loyal (since I was about 10 years old I’ve only had 3!). I choose my crush based solely upon LOOKS (who I think is SEXY) and nothing at all to do with behavior, politics, line of work, etc. Although, that criteria is usually what causes me to ‘move on’ to another. My first, my second, and my present

I am not going to tag anybody this time, but if you want to play along, leave me a comment so that I can read yours!

Revealed Identity

When I got home from work last night I was so excited to find my final SP9 package in my mailbox! My secret pal is Charity!! (I couldn’t wait to find out who my pal was!) She wrote me a card that says she loves to read and that includes romance novels so maybe I should send some of mine her way!

She really sent me a great package! 4 skeins of Cotton Classic! (I just realized that I left the notebook that I wrote the Color Numbers in at home. 😦 ) I really love the peachy/pink color and the brown and that will definitely be a square in my blanket! That is one of my absolute favorite color combinations. The other 2 skeins are sort of a forest green color and then a darker blue/green color. Both fabulous compliments to the colors that I already have! She also sent me some super cute gloves, which I needed as it is about to get COLD here this week, an adorable blue dish that I sat on my knitting book bookshelf, some more of her great hand-dyed yarn, a box of apricot tea-can’t wait to try that!, a packet of Raspberry hot chocolate (yum!!), and some travel sized Aveda products: Rosemary Mint Body Wash and Conditioner, Shampure Shampoo, and Caribbean Bar Soap! Oh I love it all!!!

She also sent me the most adorable pencil!

ha ha! so true!!!

Charity has been a really great secret pal and really made my first exchange a great one. Thanks Charity! I can’t wait to get to know you better!

The Time Has Come

I have come to a point where there is so much that I want to do that I am at a loss as to where to start. I took a small ‘inventory’ of some of my stash and found that I have a lot of yarn! Some of it was bought for specific projects and I am unsure now whether I really want to make said project. For example, I have 5 balls of Rowan Calmer in Coffee Bean (which is a really lovely color!) that I had originally planned to use to make the Knitty pattern, Tempting II. I still like this, but I am not sure that I am in need of an off the shoulder short sleeved sweater. (I don’t find that to be very practical in my life of laboratory work.) Any ideas what I can make???

I also have 9 balls of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in 602 (pink). I won this on ebay and originally thought that I would make Tempting. UGH! What was I thinking!!! I think the sweater is adorable, but really, I don’t need an off the shoulder sweater!!!! I did a search to try to come up with some patterns and I did find a very cute hooded baby sweater. Luckily, I already own this book and if I make the smallest size I will still have 5 balls to try and make myself something.

While I do have some yarn purchases gone awry, I also have some yarn that I would still like to use to make the intended project. I have 3 skeins of Cotton Fleece in Nymph for Green Gables, which I still like! Hooray! I also have 5 balls of KnitPicks Shine Sport in Hydrangea (Tivoli) and also in Blush (ballerina top or another tivoli) , as well as 4 skeins of KnitPicks Elegance in Fawn (Ms. Marigold).

I also took a picture of the yarn that I am going to use to make Jason a Curve of Pursuit blanket…it was supposed to be a surprise, but true to form, I couldn’t keep it in! I was too excited!

The yarn is KnitPicks Merino Style, colors (clockwise from top) Cinnamon, Nutmeg, and Pine. I have a gob of this yarn!!! About 24 skeins total I believe. I am pleased with the colors mostly, I just wish that the Cinnamon was a little less red. I showed him the colors though and he liked, so I am not going to fret.

I also have yarn (Lion Brand Thick and Quick Wool-Ease) to make a crocheted ripple blanket from the book, Cozy Crochet, 21 skeins of Cotton Classic for my Mitered Square blanket, some simply soft for a crocheted log cabin blanket, as well as some yarn that I got to make my mother a blanket, style as yet to be determined. I didn’t take a picture of all of this though b/c I was starting to get embarrassed that I have so much yarn and all I’ve seemed to accomplish is dishcloths. 😦

While I am very excited to make myself a garment and about 100 blankets (it seems), I am even more excited about what has recently arrived in the mail!!!

I can make my own Hello Kittys!!!! As soon as I figure out how to read Japanese crochet patterns that is.

Grab Bag

My secret pal (as well as Stacie in the comments) alerted me to the Cotton Classic (for my Mitered Square blanket) sale over at WEBS, so I decided that I would give luck a chance and see what they sent me. I ordered the 10 skein grab bag and luckily only ended up with 2 repeated colors! They sent some colors that I normally wouldn’t have picked, but paired with my pinks, purples, blues and oranges I think that it will work out great!

This picture is less than stellar as far as accuracy in the colors, but I will do my best in naming them so that you will get a better idea. (L-R) Off white (I won this cheap on ebay), Ecru, Vanilla Pudding, Forest Green, Gold, Light Teal, Blue, Bright Coral, and Gray.

Luckily, the arrival of this package happened to coincide with the 30% off sale at my LYS, so I went and grabbed up 4 more colors. I think I have now gotten every color that they have in stock!

(L-R) Turquoise, Pale Yellow, Midnight Blue, and Red-Violet

If you recall, I said that I would start planning out my squares at 20 colors, and I now have 21! I was thinking last night about how this project is quickly moving from the planning stage to the DOING stage. This revelation caused me to get a little bit nervous!

I also picked this up at the 30% off sale:

2 skeins of Rowan Tapestry. No clue what I am going to do with this…It’s very lovely though.

A funny.  Look what I happened upon today:

Almost makes me feel sorry for the cut-off ends of yarn! I never thought of them as being orphans! Too cute. 🙂 Even Garfield looks a little bit dismayed!
