I’m Back

We got back from our vacation to Florida last night and since I didn’t have the time to get together a real blog entry here is a meme for fun. I’ve seen this one around so many times but never actually got around to posting my results here even though I’ve taken the quiz several times! I think it’s pretty accurate!

I’ll be back later this week with a real blog entry to let you know what i’ve been working on and to give you a peek at all of my new yarns!

What Kind of Knitter Are You?

You appear to be a Knitting Adventurer. You are through those knitting growing pains and feeling more adventurous. You can follow a standard pattern if it’s not too complicated and know where to go to get help. Maybe you’ve started to experiment with different fibers and you might be eyeing a book with a cool technique you’ve never tried. Perhaps you prefer to stick to other people’s patterns but you are trying to challenge yourself more. Regardless of your preference, you are continually trying to grow as a knitter, and as well you should since your non-knitting friends are probably dropping some serious hints, these days.http://marniemaclean.com

I still haven’t really been doing much. This makes for some boring blogging I am afeared.

My most recent and still current project is the Felted Coin Purse from the Lion Brand website. (In order to view the pattern you will have to register, but it is free!) I am using Lion Brand wool and size 10.5 needles. While the knitting was a breeze, I have yet to get around to the felting part…

Once completed, I hope to use this as my new camera case. I have a cute HK case that I got off of ebay when I had my other camera, but my new camera is just a smidge too big so I am having some zipper issues arise.

Since I forsee this to be a cute item, I am also starting another one in purple for one of my teenage cousins for Christmas this year.

Next week I am going to be off work so I am going to use the rest of my wool to make some felted potholders. I have been wanting to do this for a while, so I figure that now is as good a time as any since I will have some other items to felt as well.

Does anybody out there know how much is too much to felt in one load? I have never felted before and I don’t want to overload my washer if that could be an issue!

What’s Been Going On

Lately I just have not been in the ‘mood’ to knit or crochet much of anything. I have been reading so many books and getting too wrapped up in them to put the book down and pick up a project. (I am such a nerd-Maybe I should start doing book reviews instead!) Therefore, I had to MAKE myself finish this bib last Wednesday night while watching Crossing Jordan.

I don’t really like to change colors and carry them up the side so this wasn’t very fun for me. Once I got to the straps I was completely OVER this bib! But I am glad that I did finish it as the stripes turned out pretty cute.

I used Bernat Cotton Tots and the baby bib o’ love pattern from Mason-Dixon Knitting. I am not completely in love with this yarn. Cotton yarn I am fine with, but this yarn is kind of ‘bulby’ and loose. I really can’t explain it because Mission Falls yarn is sort of bulby and it is perfectly wonderful to use. I am sure that it call comes down to quality, of which this doesn’t seem to be the best. I thought/hoped/expected I would really LIKE it, so I bought about 6 skeins of it when they put it on sale at Hobby Lobby a while back. Now that I have used it, not so much. The bib sort of looks like it’s already worn out and it hasn’t even been washed yet…Ugh.

I used one of the buttons that my FCS2 pal, Knittin’ Kninja, sent to me. So cute!

I only did a YO buttonhole, so I needed a small button. This one turned out to be perfect. I also like the contrast of the 2 different pinks because I didn’t want it to be too matchy.

I don’t have a baby in mind for this bib, it is one of those “just in case” items for just in case I need a gift for a bib-less baby. I was bored, I knit a bib. Besides I was a Girl Scout, I like to be prepared.

SP10 Package HERE! (with Pic!)

I received my first SP10 package in the mail today! This is going to be a great swap I can already tell!!!! Included in my package: an adorable pink Hello Kitty washcloth, Hello Kitty puffy stickers, a Chai Tea chocolate bar-I LOVE CHAI TEA!!!!!!, Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Knitter’s Almanac, and Donna Kooler’s 555 Christmas Cross-Stitch Designs! This is all so exciting!

I have really been wanting EZ’s Knitter’s Almanac because of the adorable February baby jacket. On one of the blogs I read, Knits & Pieces, Jenna made one that was SO CUTE!!!

The Cross Stitch book is fab! My aunt taught me to cross stitch when I was 5, but I have lately been wanting to relearn due to the discovery of some HK cross stitch patterns on ebay. Now that I have this book, I am going to HAVE to relearn! The designs in this book are so cute. And I figure, if I could do it as a 5 year old, surely I can do it as a 25 year old.

Thanks pal!!!!!!

I must be fascinating…

I have been tagged once again by Karen to tell 10 fascinating/interesting things about myself. This is harder than you might imagine.

1. I absolutely HATE birds. I do not like to see them, hear them, have anything to do with them! They absolutely freak me out and just the thought of one getting in my house is really almost more than I can handle. (And No, I’ve never seen “The Birds” so can you imagine if I had?!?)

2. My hands look exactly like my mother’s hands, the only exception being that her’s look older. Our fingernails grow exactly the same way and our ring sizes are almost identical (mine are just a smidge smaller). It is really uncanny.

3. I am an absolute beauty product junkie. I have about 200 tubes of lipstick/lipgloss, a box full of makeup, many many tubes of lotion and creams, about 5 kinds of moisturizer, facial masks, scrubs, etc. I cannot seem to help myself, but it is a small consolation (to myself) that I haven’t bought anything new in a very long while.

4. I am not at all uncomfortable being in the car/room/same vicinity with someone and not talking to them. While I do like to talk, I also enjoy silence and it doesn’t make me uncomfortable. Jason and I will often go on car trips and really talk for a while and then not talk to each other for like half an hour. Sometimes I just don’t feel like talking.

5. Since I have one, I feel I am justified by saying, I HATE DOUBLE NAMES! I don’t know how many times I have told someone my name was “Mary Heather” and then them ask me if Heather was my last name, if I went by both names, if they could call me a different name b/c that is too long/hard to remember, etc. I would NEVER saddle a kid with a double name. Ever.

6. I often toy with the idea of dyeing my hair back close to it’s natural color (whatever that might be as it’s been about 10 years since I’ve actually seen it) or dyeing it red for a change, but my hair colorist always snaps me back to reality.

7. I do not ever remember doing ‘mundane’ things that I do everyday but particularly locking the door and/or turning off the oven or stove eyes. Therefore I am completely paranoid that I will have not done them. I feel like I have to check and make sure the door is locked at least 2 times before I leave the house or go to bed, and I am really bad about calling Jason to ask him to make sure I’ve either turned off the stove or the oven to the point that he just checks anyway because he knows that I will ask! I am sure that this is some form of OCD but whatever.

8. When I first really met Jason (we are both from the same hometown and knew of each other through church but he is LOTS older than me 🙂 ), we had some mutual friends but I really couldn’t stand to be around him. It got so bad that if I was in the room and he came in I would leave. I am not sure what it was about him that got me so aggrevated. We think that this is pretty funny now because he would totally notice that I was trying to get away from him. ha ha. I guess he saw me as a challenge. ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9. I am not at all ticklish*. My feet used to be really ticklish, but now not so much. However, I still cannot use those feet scrubby things for the bottom of the bathtub. I bought one once and it turned out to be sensory overload for my feet. I almost fell down in the shower it was so terrible! *The only exception to this rule is my grandmother who is exceptionally gifted in the area of tickling and can make anybody just about pee in their pants.

10. At 25 years old, I am the oldest of 5 grandchildren on my mother’s side and the youngest of 3 on my dad’s side. (My dad’s brother and his wife are about to change that though as they are looking to adopt, but I am ok with that!)

I am supposed to tag 10 people, but I don’t know 10 people to tag so I am just going to tag Maria. Anybody else that wants to play, feel free!

I plan to have some actual knitting/crochet content soon. Hopefully early next week. I am completely in a rut of not wanting to finish anything that I’ve started and I am not starting anything new until I’ve gotten something finished! It is a vicious cycle.
