Deja Vu

The dishcloths that L asked me to make for her MIL back in October were such a huge hit that she asked me to make some more for her SIL so she could give them to her for Christmas. Before I was working with an apple theme but this time I was pretty much left up to my own devices as to what I wanted to make. I had a practically unused cone of Peaches & Cream Daisy Ombre, so I figured that was as good as anything AND I wouldn’t have to go out and buy something.

Since I am such a fan of this dishcloth, I automatically included it.

It is just so quick and easy! I can make 1 of them in about an hour and a half, but I am a bit slow since I don’t crochet with my yarn in the ‘correct’ hand.

I also really like the round lacy dishcloths so I sent L a picture and asked her what she thought and she approved.

This is Dapper Dab from the Leisure Arts booklet, Color Splash Dishcloths. These take me a good bit longer, but I like the result enough that it doesn’t matter!

After a marathon knitting/crochet session last Wednesday my arms and hands were so tired! I have a few more dishcloths that I am planning on making as gifts but after those, I am definitely ready to put them on the back burner for a while!

Also, I have given Cotton Tots another chance and am using it for a crochet project that I started yesterday. It is going much better, but NOW I keep catching/snagging that thread that is wound around the yarn…ugh. I think I am doomed to have a love/hate relationship with this yarn…

Cute Little Kitty

I found this adorable pattern on Ravelry and just knew that I had to make it! (You can find it here.) I had been toying with the idea of making a kitten for J’s grandmother because she lives alone and likes cats, so this seemed like a natural fit. I was able to give it to her on Thursday when we were at home for Thanksgiving, and she really loved it. I’m not sure what’s it’s name is going to be, but she seemed to like “Cutie” because it is so cute. 🙂

I used Bernat Cotton Tots in Lemon Berry and Cream and size 6 needles. For the eyes and nose I used Blue Berry and Strawberry, respectively.

I’m really pleased with the way this turned out. AND it was so easy! I started this after work one day and had it completely finished before I went to bed at about 11:00 pm. I’m sure that there will be more of these in my future as I have a sneaking suspicion that J’s sis, Karen, might want one. I’ll have to make a note for her birthday to do one in her favorite ‘cat colors.’ 😉

I think I finally figured out why I hate Cotton Tots so much while working on this project…whenever it is on the needles it just doesn’t move, not even when using metal. This really stresses me out and makes me grumpy because I like for my stitches to glide along the needles stress free. With this yarn THEY DON’T BUDGE, therefore, I have a severe distaste for Cotton Tots! (And NOW I know why cotton has a bad name…) Maybe I should try crocheting with it to see if I like it any better and if so, just reserve it for crochet projects…

A Dishcloth Break

I decided to take a break from my holiday knitting since I haven’t been particularly inspired to work on any of it…I am at the point where I only have a few more things to complete and I don’t want to work on any of it! NOT GOOD! It’s sort of like when I was in college and I was supposed to be studying so I would do anything but study…like clean the bathroom. This time I knit 2 dishcloths.

These were too cute to resist. I just couldn’t help myself…I used Sugar N Cream in Grape and Robin’s Egg Blue.

The free pattern can be found here.

I have taken this week off from work, hopefully to get some things accomplished…we’ll see how that goes as I wasn’t particularly productive today… 🙂 Maybe I will feel inspired to finish something tomorrow.

Big Heads Need Hats Too…

You might recall that I knit Jason a hat last month and I was worried that it would be too small, etc…Well turns out that he wore it while we were in the Smoky Mountains and it fits his head but doesn’t cover his ears. I have yarn left so I can easily fix this, but in the meantime I thought I would make him ANOTHER hat.

Boyfriend Hat for MY boyfriend

This is the Boyfriend Hat from Stephanie’s blog that she designed for her guy for Christmas this past year. I inadvertently ended up using the exact same color she did–coincidence! I wasn’t trying to copy you Stephanie! 🙂

The yarn is Mission Falls 1824 Wool in Charcoal Gray (004). This yarn is SO SO soft. I bought this back when my LYS was going out of business and if I’d known how lovely this yarn is I would have bought more.

In order to avoid another hat being too small, I had J measure a hat he has that does cover his ears, so I would know what I needed to aim for as the overall length (8.5″). I ended up having to knit 7″ instead of the 5.5″ that the pattern calls for before starting the decreases to make it long enough. (I’m glad I did because 5.5” before decreases would have fit J like a beanie…) The finished hat measures approximately 9″ long.

Originally I was going to save it for him for his stocking, but I needed/wanted to see how it fit him since he has a melon-head. 🙂 (Note: This really translates into “Can’t keep a secret”) I didn’t want him to open it Christmas morning and be disappointed either because it wasn’t big enough…Turns out he likes it and it fits!! 😀

Cute! and the hat looks pretty good too… 😉

FO: Luxe Neckwarmer

I have been trying to de-clutter my home and while I hate to call a UFO ‘clutter’, let’s face it, IT IS!!! So, despite the fact that I am starting to stress out about Christmas I needed to get this neck warmer finished ASAP to get it out of the way.

This is the Luxe Neckwarmer from Knit2Together. I used 1 skein of KnitPicks Decadence in Tan. For only $4.99/skein, I would totally recommend this yarn. It’s not as soft as Cascade Baby Alpaca, but it is soft and I guess it is also an example of ‘you get what you pay for.’

The cashmere the pattern called for would have been nice, but I can’t really see $65 for a neck warmer that I’ll wear occasionally!  Yikes. 🙂

I did wear it to work this morning but I didn’t have on a close fitting coat so it was kind of gaping around.  I’m getting a new coat for Christmas so I’ll be anxious to try it out with that one.

I was lucky in the regard that I had a day primarily spent in the lab yesterday so I was able to bring my project with me to work and work on it while I was waiting on my samples.

Maria was nice enough to take my picture when I finished since the photographs I take of myself are less than flattering, at best. She told me to ‘look sassy’ but then that made me laugh, so…not looking too sassy. Ah well, such as it is. 😉

I’ll be frantically and furiously working on getting some Christmas presents completed over the next few weeks. I’ll post on here what I can, but I have to keep some things secret due to prying eyes!
