You Be the Judge

Please compare:

Do either of the dishcloths pictured in this Bernat link even remotely resemble this completed dishcloth???

I don’t think so…

(Dishcloth pictured above was completed using pattern from link above, size 8 needles and Lily Sugar N Cream cotton in Lavender Ice.)

New Accessories

I have strayed so far from my goals for this month that I am not even referring to my list anymore! Oh well – probably if I hadn’t said anything about it, no one would have even noticed. 🙂  I tell on myself before anybody else has the opportunity to I guess. 😉

Despite being ‘off’ on my goals, I am still ON with my overall goal of using my stash. I don’t know that I want to be one of those people with absolutely NO stash – living in a town with no yarn store, it might be hard to operate that way – but I do know that I want to be a person with less stash! It’s not out of control, I just don’t typically knit with what I already have when time to start a new project. I am easily seduced by new(er) yarns!

I did use some yarn that I’d had for quite a while – about a year!- to complete this bag from Knit Picks aptly named “Mary’s Summer Bag”:

I used 2 entire skeins of Knit Picks Shine Worsted in Cream, and about 1.80 skeins of Shine Worsted in Snap Dragon with size 10.5 and size 9 needles.

This was a super fast knit and I really do love the results. I had a bit of trouble when I had to sew down the ruffle – of course- but I think it turned out pretty well. I also had a time making the twisted cord, so I improvised! 🙂 I am planning on using this at the beach the summer. It is very roomy and I think it will be perfect.

Last night while watching a rerun of Everybody Loves Raymond and then watching Dancing With the Stars, I was able to whip up this little credit card holder:

I used a very small amount of Malabrigo in Molly, the same color that I used for my Calorimetry and Amanda Hat. I am almost finished with this skein of yarn – I probably have enough to make another credit card holder, so I might make another one for a gift. I am also almost out of those wooden flower buttons. Only 1 left! I know I am ready to get rid of them! 🙂

I got a new wallet for my birthday but when I put all of my *crap* in there it was stuffed to the gills. So when I saw this pattern on Ravelry I thought it would be just the thing I needed to get extra stuff out of my wallet, but still have it in my purse. Some things you’ve got to keep around (ins. card, pharmacy card, library card, voter ID card, etc.) even though you don’t use them as often as everything else.

Up Next:

I’ve started the Pithy Hat in Malabrigo Damask Rose, but I am not loving the pattern. I think it will go fairly quickly though, so maybe my discomfort will be minimized. I want to make the Elizabeth Town hat as well. I have some Malabrigo in Sealing Wax that I think will look really lovely, so maybe I can’t get started on that before March is over! 🙂

April is still going to be ‘Housekeeping Month’ so get ready for the revival of some OLD UFOs.

Warming Up

It is really turning into spring here, so all of the cold weather knits I was wanting to do this month don’t really seem all that practical! I have about 20 rows left to do on my 2nd Dashing and I am just so not interested! I keep thinking, why?!? I won’t get to wear them!, so on the couch they sit! Maybe my goal for this week should be to just finish those mitts! 🙂

Over the weekend I did start and complete 2 projects! On the Ravelry group,For the Love of Sheep, our moderator posted this pattern from Lion Brand. How could I resist that!?! Of course I couldn’t!

I haven’t been able to come up with a name for him/her yet, so maybe if anything can think of a cute one they can leave me a comment! I have a LOT of stuffed lambs, and the obvious names (i.e. Lamby) have already been taken! 🙂

For this project I used Lion Brand Wool Ease – I have a lot of this in my stash so I really welcomed the opportunity to use some of it.  Natural Heather doubled, for the body, and Oxford Grey for the face and body parts.  Such a fun little project and very quick!

I also made myself a coin purse Sunday afternoon while watching the Veronica Mars DVDs that my dad sent to me for my upcoming birthday.

I used the same soy yarn from ebay that I used to make my mom’s Sniffles Tissue cover back in October. I still have a good bit of this yarn left, I think it works well for accessory type items.

Not Feeling It

This week I have been super uninspired to do much of anything! I don’t know if it is our new spring-like weather or what, but I’ve only knit maybe a few rows all week! Very strange! I don’t have any new FOs to show, but I do have my Calorimetry and squidge dishcloth from last weekend, so I think this seems like a good time to show them off!

Calorimetry from Knitty

I’m a little late to the party, but better late than never I say! For this I used about 1/4 of a skein of Malabrigo in Molly, the same color that I used for my Amanda Hat. I have about 1/4 of this skein left over still! I cast on 80 stitches since I’d heard *so much* from other knitters about how big this turns out. I would say that 80 stitches makes it the perfect length, with just a little bit of snugness. I really like it, but it is looking like I will have to wait until NEXT fall/winter to wear it!

Squidge Cloth

I had such a boring time knitting this that once I got to about 7.5″ I just decided to stop and bind off. This was the beginning of my knitting funk, I guess you could say! I used about 1/2 of a ball of Sugar N Cream in Summer Splash and size 7 needles. This would have been better on smaller ones, but 7 was the first I grabbed.

I think I am going to take a break from dishcloths for a few weeks even though I had several on my goals for this month. Looks like I won’t be meeting them afterall!

The coming months:

I have already decided what my goals are going to be for April and May – do you think it is too early to start talking about them? Sometimes I think that this is just another way that I wish my life away by not enjoying the present…but here goes anyway!

I have several several UFOs lying around so I have designated April to be Housecleaning Month! I am going to try my hardest to not cast on ANYTHING NEW during the month of April until I have finished up some unfinished objects! I have several larger projects lying around and I don’t expect to be able to complete 3 afghans in a month, but it would be nice to complete one of them! But I do hope to finish up all any smaller projects that remain unfinished, so I am sure that April is going to be some very. boring. blogging. I hope you will stick with me! 🙂

For May I am thinking amigurumi! I have a LOT of amigurumi patterns in my queue on Ravelry so I am thinking that it will be a good way to thin down my queue and my huge stash of acrylic yarn. I love amigurumi so I don’t expect this to be too much of a sacrifice. If I make it through April then May will be my reward! I’ll wait until closer to time to reveal my chosen patterns as they may change up a bit between now and then.

I’ve been tagged!

Michelle tagged me today on her blog and since I don’t have anything else exciting to talk about I will do it on this post!

1. Pick up the nearest book of 123 (or more) pages.
Crazy Aunt Purl’s Drunk, Divorced & Covered in Cat Hair

2. Open the book to page 123 and find the 5th sentence.
She was glaring at me like I was a drunken sot of a no-cooking, sorry-ass, baby mama.

3. Post the next 3 sentences.
Me! A baby mama! I could not correct her.

4. Tag 5 people.

I don’t really *know* 5 people, so anyone that feels compelled to play along is more than welcome to do so!

Well, that is all I have for today! I hope that everybody has a great weekend!

FO: Amanda Hat

Since I am having such a hard time with flickr this morning and can’t upload some other FOs, I will post about the one that has been uploaded!

This is the Amanda Hat (will open as PDF) and was a very quick knit!

I used about half of a skein of Malabrigo in Molly, with size 9 needles. The only modification that I made was during the 2nd lace portion. Since my row gauge was off, I did 10 rows instead of 12 – I have big head, but it’s not THAT big! 🙂

I am really pleased with this hat! I think that it looks interesting and for me, it fits great! I wore it Friday afternoon while waiting for our ‘snow storm’ and didn’t have any trouble with it slipping around on my head or being too tight. Great pattern!

Other projects:

I’m currently working on Dashing in Malabrigo Hummingbird and yesterday I did a quick Calorimetry in some of my left over Malabrigo Molly. I also have finished up a squidge cloth. Unfortunately there is no photo documentation of this since I cannot load things onto flickr right now for some reason. I know that there are other photo hosting sites I could use, but I like to have everything all in one place, and therefore I will just have to wait.

Another important topic: Today is Maria’s birthday! Go and wish her HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Today is a *BIG ONE*!!! 🙂

More Dishcloths to Love

My original intentions were to blog about these Valentine Dishcloths on or around Valentine’s Day, but I’m a bit late. I guess this means that Valentine’s Day gets to live on a bit longer this year!

I’ve been into making dishcloths again and while they do make for boring blogging, they are rather pretty to look at! 🙂

Two Hearts as One Dishcloth and Towel Set

This was an easy set to make, but WOW were there a lot of mistakes in the dishtowel pattern. I think that they have been fixed now, but at the time I was making it, It was so frustrating! I don’t have a computer at home, so I’d have to wait to fix my pattern until I came to work or went over to my bf’s house! I used less than 2 skeins of Lily Sugar N Cream in Rose Pink for both the cloth and the towel, so this is a nice and inexpensive gift to give someone if you were so inclined. I am planning on keeping mine. 🙂

Be My Dishcloth

Love this cloth! Found on Ravelry (naturally!) and knit in Sugar N Cream Hot Pink.

Lattice Hearts Dishcloth

Newest free pattern at Knits by Rachel. I used Lily Sugar N Cream in Hot Purple.

I’ve noticed that lots of dishcloth patterns are now calling for SUPER small needles, like #3-5. I still use #6 consistently, but am thinking about maybe going down to #5 since my knitting it getting looser. I have a few more dishcloths I want to make for spring, so I’ll probably try them out then.

Tomorrow I am going to give the update on my February Goal and list my goals for March – including Malabrigo March!
